About this event

March 4th's Movie: Mr. 3000 (2004)

Clicky Clack the telegrapher got cut off and you only got part of the message. Here it is in its entirety.

Wolf Wilson and I were just heading back to the ranch after picking up a load of supplies. I had bought a box of .44-40 cartridges for my Winchester and a plug of Day's Work tobacco for Noodle Nelson. Wolf had picked out a couple of Ned Buntline dime novels to share with the hands in the bunkhouse. Needless to say, we both had spent a little time in the Broken Spur Saloon for a shot of Lizard Tail and studying the female anatomy depicted in the art work of Mario Reviglione. On our out of town we noticed a big crowd of town's people gathered in a vacant field outside of town. We thought it might be a hanging or a rodeo. Wolf steered the buckboard toward the crowd. We encountered a dapper gentleman wearing a clean town coat, derby hat and a cigar in one hand and a mug of beer in the other. "What's goin' on?" I asked. "Game of rounders," he replied. It's a new game out of the east that is becoming popular out here in the west. Even Custer's 7th cavalry is playing it at Fort Lincoln and drinking Schlitz beer from Milwaukee. "Do tell." I said. He tried to explain the game but lost me explaining the four flour sacks laid out in a diamond shape that players had to run to before they were "out" or swung at a ball thrown at them and missing it three times. Phooey! Maybe I can learn more about the game when I go to the Eden Brook Bijou theater tomorrow at 6 PM and watch the movie, "Mr. 3000." It's the story of a Milwaukee Brewer who thinks he has his 3000th hit, a ticket into the Baseball Hall of Fame and retires. Ten years later it is discovered that through a clerical error, he only has 2,997 hits. He begins a training program trying to get back in shape. He rejoins the Brewers to try and get just 3 more hits.

The movie stars Bernie Mac, runs 103 minutes and is pretty humorous.

As usual, treats and beverages are provided for free. Join us and, along with me, try to learn a little bit about the game of "rounders," or baseball, as we call it.
